March Book Review

Happy BOOK REVIEW DAY! My favorite post of the month! Check out the great books I read this month . . . loved them all, and highly recommend! Here we go . . .

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

This is my book club book of the month! See below for my review of this book way back in May of 2018 . . . back when I knew how to be concise and quick about my reviews!

This is one of my all-time favorite thrillers! Anytime someone asks me for a suspenseful book, this is the first one that I go to. A great story that doesn’t keep you up all night. SO MUCH FUN! Highly recommend!

REVIEW (May 2018): “WOWZA! I was so into this book, that every time I had to stop reading it, I would tell Reid everything that I had just read.  He got so into the book by me just retelling the story! It has twists and turns, makes you confused, makes you angry, makes you smile, and just stays with you LONG after you have read it.  You need this book in your life! Click here to buy it for you, your friend, your mom, your neighbor . . . anyone! Please read this so I can talk about it with someone other than Reid.  I think he has heard enough about the Parrish Family!”

The Cheat Sheet by Sarah Adams

Oh. My. Heart. This book is beyond precious, and I LOVED it. Definitely my favorite read of the month.

Bree, the owner of a local ballet studio for disadvantaged children, and Nathan, hometown hero and current star quarterback of the town’s NFL team, have been best friends since high school. They have supported each other through life-threatening injuries, family dramas, and relationships ending, and cheered each other on through the highlights of their lives. Both of them have been in love with the other for years, yet they keep this to themselves in an effort to not ruin their friendship. Classic rom-com.

Chapters go back and forth from Bree and Nathan’s perspective . . . I laughed out loud several times during this book, I always looked forward to picking it up where I left off, and it made me so happy that I didn’t want it to end. The perfect kind of book.

This book is rated PG-13, maybe even PG. A Hallmark movie made into book form. LOVED IT! Perfect for any upcoming vacations or moments to yourself.

By A Thread by Lucy Score

I LOVED Lucy Score’s Things We Never Got Over! But, I have to say that I loved this one even more! YEAH!

Ally is taking care of her ailing father while drowning in his debts and trying to keep her head above water. When she is fired for standing up for herself with a rude customer, the customer’s mother feels badly and offers her a job.

Enter the rude customer . . . Dominic, who ends up being one of her bosses at this new job. Ah, fate. Dominic is a total grumpy boss turned guy with a heart of gold and background of pain. Ally is a fighter that is just trying to do the best by her father. They are continually put in awkward situations that challenge themselves, and only makes you laugh. Also, VERY rated R. Wowza! On Lucy Score’s website, it says “Lucy Score is writing romance so steamy her family can’t look her in the eye.” This made me laugh because girl can write some steam!

Trigger warning that Ally’s father has dementia, and it is written beautifully raw. Just FYI, if you have struggled with a family member walking this road before.

Really loved this story. Basically, A Devil Wears Prada, but with the head boss being an amazing woman that cares deeply for those around her.

Funny You Should Ask by Elissa Sussman

So, many years ago, the author read this article in GQ and became inspired. She took a few pages written about Chris Evans, and turned her version into a precious chick-lit. Quick note: Read the book before your read the article . . . loved seeing where bits and pieces inspired her after having read the book.

Chani, a new journalist with a popular magazine, has been hired to write a puff piece on Gabe Parker, the actor that has recently been chosen to take on the role of James Bond. People aren’t thrilled with the new Bond choice, and Chani has been tasked with convincing America that Gabe is the best choice and to get everyone to fall in love with him as an actor and as a person.

An afternoon interview turned into a weekend of fun, which then led to sporadic phone calls and visits over a ten-year period.

Ten years later, Chani – now a highly successful author – is again given the task of writing a puff piece about Gabe. This time his people need her interview to convince America that he is sober (three recent trips to rehab), he is emotionally stable (after a messy divorce), and he is perfect in his comeback role. Ten years full of emotions for each of them, a lifetime in Hollywood.

This story is told between different timelines, through first person encounters, as well as through journalistic write-ups. Fascinating, fun, and precious. I loved all of the characters, just loved it all.

A bit rated R in one chapter, but overall its pretty tame! LOVED it! Amazing talent that this author can craft this book from one article. Super impressed!

Maggie Moves On by Lucy Score

Two things I love: (1) A book that I can get on Kindle Unlimited and take with me everywhere, and (2) A book from an author that I know will be cute, make me laugh, and I will fly through it.

After my earlier Lucy Score book, I decided to make the jump again since I had a few more days left in March. 😉 Maggie Moves On did not disappoint. Think a rom-com, steamy version of a HGTV show!

Maggie is a current YouTube star. Her show highlights her rehabing properties that are a mess and then selling them at top dollar. We’ve seen this type of show a million times of HGTV, but this is different for a couple of reasons . . . (1) She doesn’t have HGTV sponsors, so she is a total workaholic trying to grind for advertiser money and local crews to help. And, (2) Her costar is her ex-husband, her best friend and now out of the closet as a gay man.

Maggie buys the Old Campbell Place – a mansion in Kinship, Idaho – as her next project, and the budget and scope is larger than she has ever taken on. In the hopes of getting the community involved, she hires local help . . . enter Silas, the local landscaper. Silas immediately starts to fall for Maggie, and is not shy about trying to win her over. Their banter is hilarious, which makes you love all of them and this precious town.

Super cute book. It even had a nice little mystery wrapped up in the story to break up the home renovations, family drama, and romance. As per the earlier Lucy Score, this is rated R. Just FYI.
