WOMEN SUPPORTING WOMEN: MLM EDITION

After my Women Supporting Women post a few weeks ago, I have had so many amazing conversations about women in business.  Where I live in Dallas, I am fortunate to know so many successful women that own and run their own businesses.  Some are storefronts, some are online only, some are MLMs.  It has just been such a joy to see so many women take a step in this direction.  I have always said that an educated woman can change the world.  A few years ago, a local woman was diagnosed with a rare type of leukemia.  Her friends organized a blood and bone marrow donation drive, and you should have seen it.  It was over the top successful.  Its amazing what a few women can put together.

A lot of the conversations that I have had since my recent post have centered around MLMs, or multi-level marketing organizations.  Back in the day, the term “pyramid scheme” was thrown around to describe similar organizations and I think MLMs are still a bit mysterious to some of you out there.  Well, my friends, times have changed.  With amazing compensation programs, incentives, training programs, money back guarantee programs, and philanthropic initiatives, MLMs have been updated and their success is proven in their popularity among customers and employees alike.  Without doing a quick google search, I can name the following MLM companies.  I am HIGHLY aware that I am missing several, but this is more to prove how prevalent they are on the top of my head!

  1. Plexus Slim
  2. NewULife – Somaderm Gel
  3. Stella & Dot
  4. BeautyCounter
  5. Young Living Oils
  6. Rodan & Fields
  7. Noonday

*I think Mary Kay and Tupperware are still considered MLMs, but I am not educated enough on those.  For the seven listed above, I know MULTIPLE women that work for these organizations.  Women that are successful and growing their businesses!

One thing that I have heard in my discussions . . . MLMs are hard to understand for those of you that don’t work for one.  Let me just say that MLMs are SO MUCH FUN! For those women that work for the companies (I have lost count the number of trips Kim has earned and been sent on), and for those women that get to check out awesome new products at great prices and in fun places.  Y’all, I stopped by a Noonday party earlier this week and was offered a mimosa at 10am.  I mean, I said no, but it was so fun! And, I scored a pretty awesome pair of earrings while helping women in third world countries.

I was chatting with my sister-in-law about these MLM discussions, and we came up with a super fun idea.  Now . . . you may remember that my sister-in-law is one of the highest positions with Stella & Dot.  The name Stella & Dot are the founders’ grandmother’s names.  I keep saying that Kim is trying to add Marge (her grandmother) to the companies name since she is such a rock star.  Prepare people, it will be Stella & Dot & Marge before long! 😉

Anyway . . . we are having a fun party at my house and online! We are calling it Christmas Market Madness OR Christmas Market MLM Madness.  It is about three weeks away, and I want you to all check it out!

Also, so excited about this, 15% of proceeds will go to Kidd’s Kids.  Kidd’s Kids is a local Dallas charity that was founded in 1991 by the late Kidd Kraddick, a local DJ.  Kidd’s Kids mission is “to provide hope and happiness by creating beautiful memories for families of children with life-altering or life-threatening conditions”.  One of the main things Kidd’s Kids does is to provide an all-expense-paid trip for approximately 50 children and their families to Walt Disney World each year.  For many families that have children with life-altering conditions, this becomes the trip of their lifetime.  For the children to have a moment away from the hospital and doctors office, and to just be a kid.  This organization is amazing, and it has been something that Reid and I have supported throughout the years.  I recommend checking out the Kidd’s Kids website, and listen in to 106.1 KISS FM in Dallas (can easily be found on the I Heart Radio app) when they head out on this year’s Kidd’s Kids trip next Thursday, November 15th.  It is always emotional to hear from the grateful parents and kiddos that get to enjoy this amazing experience.  SO . . . 15% of all proceeds will be donated to this awesome organization! Kim and I are both excited to be involved with them and sending some money their way! Such an awesome way to give this time of year! 😊
