May Book Review!

WOOHOO!!! My favorite post of the month! Its BOOK REVIEW DAY over here at Lunchbox Babies!!!

This month, I truly concentrated on books that would be EASY reads for the summer months. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SUMMER! Summer is filled with the added ability to grab a great book to take on a trip, to sit in your backyard, or to just stay up late at night in your own bed!

So, I think that I found THREE awesome, AWESOME books for you to grab for your upcoming summer months. And ONE disaster. Seriously. But, all four are fun, quick reads, and easy.

Here we go . . .

The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

I read The Wedding Date last fall, and really enjoyed it. Click here to read my review of that book. This is the author’s follow-up novel, and while Drew and Alexis are in this book, it centers around Drew’s best friend, Carlos Ibarra.

Nikole’s boyfriend proposes to her on the jumbotron at a Dodgers game. After she says no and he storms out, you can imagine the massive embarassment and guilt she feels. Carlos and his sister, Angela, are nearby and see the entire mess play out and decide to come to the rescue and get her out of the ballpark and away from further humiliation. A sweet friendship begins between Carlos and Nikole, and even though neither wants a relationship, love has a funny way of not listening.

Super cute book. I really liked it! Let me say that this book is Rated R. Not as strong of a R rating as The Wedding Date was, but still very much leans that way. This was a quick read, and such a fun story. I loved all of the characters, and really found myself rooting for everyone. This is one of those books that you need to have on your summer reading list. Fun, makes you happy, all around goodness! Click here to grab a copy for yourself from my Amazon store!

Fight or Flight by Samantha Young

This book was such a sweet surprise, and my first one to read by Samantha Young. Oh, Samantha, I will be checking out more of your books!

Ava is trying to get home to Boston after a hard trip to her hometown to bury her childhood best friend. After delay after delay, her flight takes off and she is seated next to Caleb Scott, a Scottish businessman that is incredibly rude, angry, and just a total “butt head”. Ha, can you tell I am a boy mom! Over the course of a few days, Ava and Caleb continue to run into on another. Each time a little less contemptuous, but never overly pleasant.

However, Caleb finds himself stuck in Boston for awhile longer for work, and Ava’s best client wants her to entertain Caleb while he is in town. One thing leads to another, and these two very damaged people end up finding ways to heal themselves and each other.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! Very much a chick-lit/romance book. And, this book is rated R! Know that going in. I think that out of the four books I read this month, this book is the BEST for a quick summer read. Super cute! Click here to grab a copy for yourself from my Amazon store!

It’s Always The Husband by Michele Campbell

Oh friends. I like to always be positive in these reviews, but this book was THE WORST! I am so sorry to say that. Please note that it was a quick read – mostly because I was trying to get it over with.

You know that I love a good psychological thriller, but this just didn’t do it for me. Not one character in the entire book had any redeeming qualities about them. Not one! I like to find my characters to root for in a book, but I literally did not care about any of them. They are all awful, awful people.

This story is about three girls that meet as freshman roommates in college. They stay friends through the years, and now at forty, one of them ends up dead. Was it an accident, a suicide, or murder? And, more importantly, did I even care? Ugh!

Totally not meaning to be a Debbie Downer on this one, but this book fell into a very small category in my life. And that category is for books that I almost stopped halfway through, but fought the good fight for this book review.

Not a fan. Have any of you read this book? I would love to hear what you thought! If after reading my glowing book review here, and you STILL want to read this book, click here to grab a copy in my Amazon store!

Big Sexy Love by Kirsty Greenwood

I discovered this book while doing a random search on Amazon. I loved the reviews on this book, and just grabbed a copy without even reading the summary! I’m so happy to report that this book is precious. It gave me a little bit of the Bridget Jone’s Diary meets Notting Hill feelings. I was expecting it to be one thing, and it definitely had more substance than I was anticipating. Big Sexy Love touches on friendship, love, and finding your way. Just SO cute!

Olive Brewster is stuck in a rut. Having had a horrible childhood, she is basically just existing in her life, not living it. When her best friend, Birdie, has a dying wish, Olive jumps into action to make this wish come true, which means that Olive will have to leave her comfort zone, travel to a foreign country, and put herself in crazy situation after crazy situation!

There were parts where I laughed out loud in this book! And, some of the situations that she finds herself in made me want to read through my fingers as I cringed. So, so funny!

This is the sweetest book about friendship, love, and finding yourself in the midst of the everyday craziness. A chick lit, plus a little more type of book. I loved this book. Such a quick read, and perfect for your summer! Click here to grab a copy for yourself in my Amazon store!
