January Book Review

Happy Thursday, friends! And…Happy Book Review Day! My favorite post of the month!!

This month has been a bit of an anomaly. Wedding, recovering from the wedding fun, getting back to school and sports, and then catching up on actual work! Lots of craziness and fun, but I managed to finally fit in THREE books to read and share with you.

Since this month was so nutty, my goal was to read easy, breezy books that made me smile and were quick and fun reads. I almost succeeded. Almost!

Here we go…

Mistletoe & Mr. Right by Sarah Morgenthaler

This is the sequel to The Tourist Attraction that I read (and loved) last month. You can click here to read my review of that precious book. Y’all know how much I love a great series, and I am already excited for the third and final book.

Mistletoe & Mr. Right follows Lana, the wealthy real estate developer that has purchased Moose Springs, and Rick, a local pool hall owner. A story of opposites attract and finding your home in a world of opportunity.

If you loved The Tourist Attraction, which I did, this is much of the same. Same exact formula . . . rinse, rather, repeat. And, you know what? I’m totally fine with it. Such a sweet story. The characters that I loved so much from the first book are heavily featured in this book as well. And, the town of Moose Springs sounds like something that I need to add to my travel bucket list.

Just super sweet. An easy read to grab for a Spring Break trip, or just something to have with you during those carpool days.

Ghosted by Rosie Walsh

Okay . . . I promise that I am not in a bad mood while I am writing this, but I’m about to be brutally honest. This book has been recommended to me several times. When a friend finally dropped it off on my front porch, I decided to finally crack it open.

Ghosted follows Sarah and Eddie’s seven perfect days together, their growing relationship and falling in love, and then Eddie vanishes. Sarah does not handle this well, and follows clues and investigates where the heck he went. So many twists and turns in this book, so I don’t really want to give anything away.

Let me just say this…and apologies to all that recommended this to me…I was NOT a fan of this book! At all! I texted my friend that gave me the book that it had only been seven stinkin’ days and Sarah needed to get over it! Again, twists and turns, and all that. Blah, blah, blah. I really just didn’t care. The plot was so wonky and convoluted that I still find myself thinking about it two weeks after I finished the book. Ugh!

This is classified as a love story AND suspense, but I would probably skip it. I know one friend that started reading it after I did, and she felt the same way. Our texts helped me get through the book. She actually texted me “What A Waste!” when she finished it yesterday. And, I totally agree with her. UGH! I hate writing bad reviews, and I rarely do. Any of you read this? I know that it has a following out there, and would love your thoughts!!

Ten Rules For Faking It by Sophie Sullivan

After the debacle that was Ghosted, I really needed an easy, breezy book that was carefree and wonderful. I popped into a local bookstore before carpool one day, and just grabbed this book based upon the cover. Never heard of it, but went for it.

Y’all. So precious. This is a classic chick lit book. Ten Rules For Faking It is wholesome, sweet, super cheesy, and I loved it.

It’s based at a radio station an hour outside of LA, and follows the station manager (Chris- a guy trying to jump through hoops to make his father proud), a deejay (Stacey – a hilarious woman that it is a serial dater and amazing best friend), and a producer (Everly – a woman struggling with social anxiety and feeling a bit stuck). After an unfortunate on-air confession, Everly finds herself in a radio version of The Bachelorette. She has to work through her anxiety, her issues with her parents, and struggles to find comfort in the ones she loves. To help her through this process, she writes herself a list of ten rules that she needs to follow in order to fake it until she makes it.

Sweet book. I would like to go ahead and petition Hallmark to make this a movie because I would throw the launch party and invite all of you. Super, super cute. I was smiling as I ended the book because it just made me happy and that is what we all need right now. Cheesy, happy love stories!!

*******

That’s it for today! Please let me know your recommendations! And, let me know if you have read any of these. I always love hearing from you! Have a great rest of your week and weekend! XO
