June Book Review

It is BOOK REVIEW DAY! Woohoo!!! One of my favorite posts of the month! I read such a random mixture of books this month, and can’t wait to share them with you!!

Also . . . poor Reid . . . this is basically me! HA!

Here we go . . .

Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah

I read this book at the very beginning of the month, and couldn’t wait to share it with y’all! This is currently in the running for my FAVORITE book of 2019! I love Kristin Hannah, and she does not disappoint with this amazing book! Like I said in my review, you feel her books in your bones. They are that good!

The Last Time I Saw You by Liv Constantine

I love Liv Constantine’s books! Liv Constantine is actually the pen name for two sisters that write their books together. One lives in Connecticut and the other in Virginia. They regularly FaceTime as they write their books together. How cool is that?

I read their book The Last Mrs. Parrish, and I LOVED it! I have recommended it SO many times, and everyone has been pleased. You can read my review of that book here.

The Last Time I Saw You is their brand new book, and it is SO GOOD! This is the book that I read while we were on our “Framily” trip to Hyatt Lost Pines in early June. Here is the picture again of me giving the “ten-year-old” version of the story to the kids. They were so into this book, and it made reading it that much more fun!

Kate English is the only daughter of Lily and Harrison. Lily comes from a ton of money, and has spent her adult life giving to charities, having her own foundation, and making those around her fall in love with her. When Lily is brutally murdered in her own home, Kate’s world falls apart. And, then when someone starts sending Kate threatening messages that she is next, she basically has a meltdown!

Who killed her mom? Who is after her? Is her own family safe? There are SO many working parts in this story. Each chapter makes you think another character is to blame, and the twists and turns just keep on coming!

This book is SO MUCH FUN! A suspenseful “who done it” type of book that keeps you entertaining and guessing until the very last page. I just cannot say enough about this book. Love, love, love! Perfect for a quick summer read! Click here to grab a copy for yourself in my Amazon store. Or, call me and I will gladly pass over my copy for you to borrow! 😉

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

This book fascinated me for one main reason. The author, Helen Hoang was diagnosed at age thirty-four with high-functioning autism. She said that she had always felt different growing up, and when a teacher suggested that her daughter was autistic, she started researching the condition, which led to her own diagnosis. So, the main character in The Kiss Quotient, Stella Lane, also has high-functioning autism. The entire concept was so fascinating to me, and I was really looking forward to reading this book. It was recommended to me on a book blog that I follow, and several people were loving on this book.

Stella Lane is a highly successful business woman that spends all her time processing data and working with economic formulas. Outside of work, she sticks to routines, doesn’t have a social life, and deals with her mother’s constant conversations about how she is ready for grandchildren. When a rude co-worker insults her and suggests she dates more so that she can get better socially, she decides to hire an escort that can teach her the ways of relationships and all that goes into them.

Michael Larson, the escort, is only dealing with this lifestyle while he is paying for his mother’s medical bills. She has stage four cancer, and he is sacrificing himself for the good of his family. Totally a “stripper with the heart of gold” type of story here. Michael and Stella form a friendship and end up helping each other WAY more than your typical client/escort situation.

Let me say that this is THE MOST Rated R book that I have ever reviewed. VERY RATED R. Like, I was kind of shocked by the level of Rated R material. The story is precious, and I really did love that part. But, the level of “action” is at a level 10. If not 11. This kind of stuff does not bother me, but I know that it bothers a lot of people. So, if I was shocked, just please be warned what you are getting into here. If you can handle that part, then this is a great beach read. I read it over a couple of days. And, again, the actual “non-action” plot is precious. All about learning to love yourself and others despite your differences and your past. The Other Woman by Sandie Jones

I bought this book for one main reason . . . on the front of my copy, there is a quote from Kristin Hannah saying that this book is the “perfect beach read”. Y’all know how much I love Kristin Hannah, so I obviously had to trust her recommendation!

Emily and Adam meet one night at a bar while out with their respective work colleagues. They quickly become close, spending almost every night and waking moment together. Things are going perfectly, and Emily is quickly falling head over heels in love.

Two months into their relationship, Adam takes Emily to meet his mother, and things start to unravel. Quickly. Pammie is a total disaster. The head games she plays with Emily are disturbing, and had me completely baffled as to why Emily didn’t just say “peace out” to the relationship.

I really can’t say too much about the plot as there are so many moving parts, but I can say that I did not see the end coming. Wowza! Kristin Hannah was right, it is the perfect beach read. Quick, easy, entertaining, and satisfying. And, slightly disturbing at times. I felt that my confusion was eased as the book went on, but I really wanted to slap Emily in the face a few times during the first half of the book.

Whew! That’s it for this month! Such a fun group of books. As always, send me YOUR recommendations! I already have my eye on one book for July, but am needing a couple more! XOXO
