November Book Review

It’s BOOK REVIEW DAY! It is early this month because I am going to spend all next week loving on my family, relaxing, and just enjoying all things Thanksgiving. Can.Not.Wait!

This month, I managed to read three books. My goal was to find books for all of you to either read over the Christmas holidays, or for you to snag for someone’s stocking!

So, I really liked one of them, LOVED one of them, and was a bit disappointed in the other. Here we go . . . ENJOY!

All I Ever Wanted by Kristan Higgins

Last month, I ended on Kristin Hannah’s Firefly Lane. I loved it, but it was HEAVY! So, I needed a super easy read to give me a bit of a break as I entered into November. Enter Kristan Higgins. Her formula in her earlier books is tried and true, and it makes for a fun, quick read. Girl likes guy, guy seems troubled in some way, they grow close, there is some type of conflict that pushes them apart, then they end up together forever. Total chick-lit. Basically, a Hallmark movie in book form.

Callie comes to grips with being alone after the love of her life proposes to the new girl at the firm. Callie has wasted years on pining after this guy, and she realizes that she needs to move on and figure out her life.

Meanwhile, Ian is the new vet in town. He is a bit mysterious and seems to be running from something in his past.

Total Hallmark movie/Kristan Higgins perfection. There is also an adorable dog, a big and crazy family, and a precious, small town where everyone knows each other. Classic chick lit that won’t make you think and just make you smile.

One Day In December by Josie Silver

Do you like reading a great book over the Holidays? Well then, grab a blanket, pour yourself some hot chocolate and grab a copy of One Day In December!

Here are the reasons I love this book . . .
1. I love all things Christmas, and that one day in December was during the Holidays.
2. This book spans years, and you know how much I enjoy that. For me, I enjoy watching the characters I have grown to love grow up and get some closure.
3. This book gave me major Love Actually feels. Which, of course, is one of the all-time best Christmas movies ever made.

Four days before Christmas, Laurie is sitting on a bus headed home from her job in London. At a bus stop, Laurie spies a guy reading a newspaper. Their eyes meet, a connection is felt, smiles are exchanged . . . and, then her bus pulls away with her on it and him still standing at the bus stop.

Laurie, and her best friend Sara, search for “bus stop boy” for months. Laurie is sure that this is the love of her life, but he is never found.

UNTIL . . . Sara brings her new boyfriend to a Christmas party the following year, and it is “bus stop boy”.

Here begins a decade of love, loss, true friendship, hard decisions, and just such a picture of real life. This is a messy and sweet Chick lit book, and I was ALL ABOUT IT!

I love how just one moment can define your life. But, how you choose to let it define your future makes all the difference. Such a sweet book to read over the Christmas holidays! Precious! Click here to grab a copy for yourself!

The Third Wife by Lisa Jewell

I have really enjoyed Lisa Jewell’s books in the past. I have read her most recent books – Then She Was Gone (back in March) and Watching You (back in September) – and was a BIG fan! So, I was super excited to grab one of her earlier books and check it out. AND . . . I was really disappointed. Boo! So bummed to say that.

Adrian Wolfe has two ex-wives, a current wife, and five children. That sounds like such a mess, but they make it work with family holidays, family trips and large family dinners. All seems well, until Adrian’s current wife dies in a tragic accident.

As Adrian deals with his grief, shocking information starts to emerge and it seems that there are secrets throughout this little family. What is really going on?

Sounds like an interesting concept, right? Wrong. This book was so boring to me. I just wanted it to be over and move on. The characters were all likeable, but I just DID.NOT.CARE. Such a bummer.

If you are a Lisa Jewell fan, you may want to try this one out and let me know if you agree with me. If so . . . Click here to grab a copy for yourself!
